Six farmer tips for better rate realisation

None of these require new equipment or extra land. They are habits that repeatedly separate a top-band lot from an average one in the same yard on the same morning.

The six habits

Applied together across a season, these usually matter more than the day's market average.

  • Sort before you load — removing damaged and off-colour pods lifts the whole lot's grade
  • Be honest on moisture — a declared damp lot is discounted once; a hidden one costs trust
  • Keep lots uniform — one variety, one drying batch, one sack weight
  • Use clean, properly stitched sacks with your lot mark
  • Ask for arrivals and rate direction before loading
  • Take the written account — weights, deductions and rate on paper, every time

Working with a commission agent

Our job is to present your lot to the right buyer at the right moment and to report the outcome transparently. Growers who plan sales with us instead of arriving unannounced consistently see better realisation over a season.
